the second in my series of monthly demo tapes.

for this tape, i tried to emphasize ideas with multiple parts. at the end of the day, the goal is to write full songs. so, i wanted to practice doing that, even if the ideas were instrumental only.

  1. forecasting (instrumental)
  2. pull at grass (instrumental)
  3. i believed it
  4. i believed it (2x)
  5. fern in the breeze (instrumental)
  6. 2:02 AM (instrumental)
  7. chores (instrumental)
  8. symptoms
  9. gloomy (instrumental)
  10. picking something up (instrumental)

feel free to download these. you can also find them on bandcamp.

1. forecasting (instrumental)

2. pull at grass (instrumental)

3. i believed it

i only went to the studio to record drums once this month, but i'm glad to have done it for at least one demo, even if it is somewhat sloppy. i'm also glad that this song has multiple parts, lyrics, and sections. it's a full idea even if it needs some editing. i'm looking forward to working on this one more later. i'd also like to disclose that the vocals were added digitally after the inital recording: so those were the only parts of this demo-set that weren't directly recorded to tape.

lyrics:

swam right to you
kisses on foreheads
you placed me in soil

don't want to be from you
but all things grow in distance
i read like a secret
kept in a locket

again, i believed it

knew you by your fingers
that kept me upright
hovering brown eyes

watched how i traced
the concrete of your life
softly with mine
it read like a secret

again, i believed it

you're always surrounded

4. i believed it (2x)

5. fern in the breeze (instrumental)

6. 2:02 AM (instrumental)

7. chores (instrumental)

8. symptoms

lyrics:

exhausted from nothing
feels like a fever inside and out
it's got to be something
with so many symptoms
so peel back all my nails
can you see it?

9. gloomy (instrumental)

my friend, J, sent me a demo during a particularly rainy day. i wrote this and sent it to him in response. i like it.

10. picking something up (instrumental)
